Softball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Madera's Winning Streak

Madera dropped their record down to 13-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Central Grizzlies by a score of 4-2. The Coyotes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grizzlies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Viviana Nombrano was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Nombrano was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Nombrano wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brilynn Santiago, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Central, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-1-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

On Central's side, Kaia Galaviz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Galaviz has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

Madera wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-1 defeat against Clovis East on the 15th. As for Central, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-0 win against Edison on the 15th.
