Softball Recap: Lee Academy Comes Up Short

Lee Academy extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They fell 12-8 to the Richard Winn Academy Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-9 two weeks ago.

Ansley Nesbit made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Presleigh Greene, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Richard Winn Academy, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games.

On Richard Winn Academy's side, Caroline Tolbert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits. Tolbert has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Harper Branham was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Abby Lewis was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Lee Academy is taking a road trip to square off against Conway Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Cavaliers are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak. Richard Winn Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
