Softball Recap: Voorheesville Comes Up Short

Voorheesville had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 6-13 to make it four. They lost 8-1 to the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Ravens. That's two games in a row now that the Blackbirds have lost by exactly seven runs.

Voorheesville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skylar Schmidt, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Madi Bourdeau also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

On Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk's side, Braelynn Maurer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Maurer was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mackenzie Cross was excellent, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Megan Visone, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Coming up, Voorheesville will square off against Fonda-Fultonville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
