Baseball Game Preview: Newton Local Indians vs. Arcanum Trojans

The Newton Local Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Arcanum Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Newton Local barely beat National Trail the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians' pitchers stepped up to hand the Blazers a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now won seven in a row.

Tri-County North typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Arcanum proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Panthers 10-0. Arcanum's victory was all the more impressive since the Panthers were averaging only 4.06 runs allowed on the season.

Arcanum is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Newton Local, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

Newton Local came out on top in a nail-biter against Arcanum in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
