Softball Recap: Crete Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Crete entered their tilt with York on Monday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dukes a 9-0 shutout. The Cardinals' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.

Madynn Dunham was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Camry Draeger and Makesha Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Draeger went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits Smith has posted over her last six contests. Kacey Dunaway was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Crete was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as York only posted a batting average of .062.

Crete's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for York, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-8.

Coming up, Crete will be playing at home against Grand Island Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for York, they will face off against Kearney Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
