Basketball Recap: Southridge Takes a Loss

Southridge's tournament run continued when they took on Creekside on Monday. The Southridge Spartans fell to the Creekside Seminoles 57-52. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Southridge saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sakura Barnes went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Barnes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dianka Hardisson, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Southridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Creekside only racked up nine assists.

Creekside found their leader in sophomore C?India Dennis, who made all 10 shots she took to post 25 points and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Dennis has scored at least a third of Creekside's points. Jacy Mitchell was another key player, as she made all 5 shots she took racking up 10 points.

Southridge's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Creekside, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 20-0.

Southridge will challenge North Miami Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Southridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season. As for Creekside, they are taking a road trip to challenge Midtown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Midtown knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 contests -- so hopefully Creekside likes a good challenge.
