Softball Recap: Guilford Extends Winning Streak to Four

Guilford extended their winning streak to four on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 5-6 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bolingbrook Raiders, sneaking past 4-2. Four seems to be a good number for the Vikings as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Malia Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Amiyah Wyrick, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Hunter, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for Bolingbrook, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since May 2, 2024.

On Bolingbrook's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma King, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was King's first of the season.

Guilford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-0 defeat against Antioch on the 19th. As for Bolingbrook, they have also already played their next contest, a 13-1 loss against Hononegah on the 19th.
