Softball Game Preview: Muenster Hornets vs. Sundown Roughnecks

For the second straight game, Muenster will face off against Sundown. The Hornets will challenge the Roughnecks at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Muenster 3.7, Sundown 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Muenster heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Thursday. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sundown. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hornets, who until this contest were averaging 3.7 runs allowed.

For Sundown's part, Destiny Garza was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Garza was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Nayleen Morin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. Araceli Ibarra was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Sundown lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Muenster didn't launched any home runs.

Sundown is on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 22 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 31-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Muenster, their defeat dropped their record down to 26-10-1.
