Softball Recap: Hillman Comes Up Short

Hillman dropped their record down to 11-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Johannesburg-Lewiston Cardinals, falling 10-3. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Johannesburg-Lewiston, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.

For Johannesburg-Lewiston's part, Ashlynn Burke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Burke has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaeden Briley, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Emery Lawes, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.

While Hillman had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
