The Wickliffe Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Berkshire Badgers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wickliffe has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wickliffe couldn't beat South on Saturday even though they stacked eight runs on them in the fourth inning. The Blue Devils came up short against the Rebels, falling 20-11. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Amanda Peklay was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Ava McGarry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Berkshire won against Crestwood on Monday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Badgers beat Chagrin Falls by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Badgers, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Moira Wonders made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Whitney Davis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Young, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Berkshire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Berkshire's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Wickliffe, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wickliffe hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Berkshire struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wickliffe might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Berkshire in their previous meeting on Saturday. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
