Basketball Recap: Whitko Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Davin Day and Caden Deneve

Whitko was the 67-48 winner over Southwood when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Whitko Wildcats took a 50-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southwood Knights on Friday.

Whitko's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caden Deneve, who went 7 for 17 en route to 14 points and six boards, and Davin Day, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds.

It was another big night for Bryce Wilcox, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds for Southwood. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Barney, who earned two points along with eight assists and eight boards.

Whitko has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Southwood, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-5 record.

Whitko wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-40 victory against Northfield on the 24th. As for Southwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-33 defeat against Oak Hill on the 21st.
