Baseball Recap: Louis E. Dieruff Huskies vs. Catasauqua Rough Riders
Louis E. Dieruff extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-15 in the process. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Catasauqua Rough Riders. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rough Riders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Brian Cepin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jean Varela, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Catasauqua, their victory ended a 19-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-17. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.
On Catasauqua's side, Lynkan Moore was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Moore is becoming a predictor of the Rough Riders' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-16 when he doesn't). Asael Gonzalez was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Louis E. Dieruff will welcome William Allen at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Catasauqua, they will head out to take on Salisbury Township at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rough Riders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
