Basketball Recap: La Grange Comes Up Short

After flying high against Smithville last Friday, La Grange came back down to earth. The La Grange Leopards took a 56-41 bruising from the Bellville Brahmas on Tuesday. The Leopards were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Brahmas earlier this season, when they won 68-41.

Despite the loss, La Grange saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brandon Mathis went 7 of 12 to rack up 16 points along with seven rebounds and seven blocks. Mathis has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Gunn, who posted nine points and five boards.

La Grange's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 23-9. As for Bellville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-9.

La Grange does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bellville, they will venture away from home to take on Fayetteville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
