Basketball Recap: Alisal Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Palma, Alisal was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with an 80-69 win over the Pacific Grove Breakers. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 79-71 loss the last time these two teams met.

Alisal had a senior duo take command as Misael Palafox dropped a triple-double on 34 points, 14 rebounds, and ten assists and Kike Jacinto dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 14 boards, and 14 assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Palafox has scored at least a third of Alisal's points. Christian Lopez was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Alisal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 50 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 27 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Pacific Grove's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Nimri, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Nimri has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergen Serttunc, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 20 points along with six boards and four blocks.

Alisal's record now sits at 10-2. As for Pacific Grove, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.

Alisal didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-44 defeat against Monterey on the 13th. Pacific Grove has also already played their next matchup, a 51-35 loss against Carmel on the 11th.
