Baseball Game Preview: Hilltop Cadets vs. North Baltimore Tigers

The Hilltop Cadets are taking a road trip to square off against the North Baltimore Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hilltop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Hilltop not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 14-1). They blew past Gorham Fayette 11-1. The Cadets haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Cameron Schlosser made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hilltop's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Terry Rebeck, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Hilltop: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Cameron Shimp was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Hilltop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, North Baltimore was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arcadia.

Hilltop now has a winning record of 9-8. As for North Baltimore, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Hilltop was able to grind out a solid win over North Baltimore when the teams last played back in May of 2023, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cadets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
