Softball Game Preview: Flandreau Fliers vs. Gayville-Volin Raiders

The Flandreau Fliers will square off against the Gayville-Volin Raiders on Tuesday. Gayville-Volin took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Flandreau, who comes in off a win.

Flandreau had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Howard on Saturday. The Fliers were the clear victors by a 20-8 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Fliers have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Gayville-Volin's good fortune finally ran out last Thursday. They fell just short of Vermillion by a score of 8-7.

Teresa Stockman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Maia Achen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Flandreau has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Gayville-Volin, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4.

Flandreau came out on top in a nail-biter against Gayville-Volin in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, sneaking past 10-8. Do the Fliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
