Preview: Minden Whippets vs. Cozad Haymakers

Minden has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Cozad Haymakers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Minden posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-54 win over Holdrege. That's two games straight that Minden has won by exactly two points.

Kade Dorszynski was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Lutkemeier, who scored nine points.

Even though Cozad has not done well against Lexington recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Cozad came out on top against Lexington by a score of 60-47. Given Cozad's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Lexington is ranked 201st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cozad's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olliver Davis, who scored 24 points along with four steals. Monty Brooks-follmer was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Minden has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Cozad, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3.

Tuesday's contest will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Brycen Schwenka and Davis. Schwenka has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 10.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. For his part, Davis has averaged 11.6 points, 2.2 steals, and 5.3 rebounds.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Minden hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.8 points per game. It's a different story for Cozad, though, as they've been averaging only 50.9 points per game. The only thing between Minden and another offensive beatdown is Cozad.
