Baseball Recap: Freeburg Has No Trouble Against East Alton-Wood River

After only one run in their last match, Freeburg made sure to put some runs up on the board against East Alton-Wood River on Tuesday. The Midgets were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Oilers. The contest marked the Midgets' most dominant win of the season.

Freeburg got a great performance from Cohen Merrill as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Merrill a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Ryan Garland was a standout: he got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Freeburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Gabe Lueth was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Freeburg's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for East Alton-Wood River, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
