Basketball Recap: Jayden Black's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fuquay - Varina over Enloe

Fuquay - Varina came up into this matchup off a tough 23-point defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Enloe Eagles by a score of 56-53 on Tuesday. The Bengals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fuquay - Varina's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Black, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points and three steals. Black is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last five games he's played. Beckett Coon was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Enloe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gui Wilkins out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of John Brown, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds.

Fuquay - Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Enloe, they moved to 2-7 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Fuquay - Varina and Enloe could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Fuquay - Varina (ranked 381st) will meet Cleveland (ranked 94th) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Enloe (ranked 410th) will meet Heritage (ranked 83rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
