Baseball Recap: Minisink Valley Makes It Three in a Row at Home

After losing to Warwick the last time they met, Minisink Valley decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Warriors came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 9-6 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Christopher McCauley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Minisink Valley's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). McCauley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nik Marrero, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liam Barry, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Minisink Valley pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Warwick, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
