Basketball Recap: Broadwater Academy Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Broadwater Academy extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Leah Smith. The Broadwater Academy Vikings came out on top against the Denbigh Baptist Christian Minutemen by a score of 35-26 on Friday thanks in part to Smith, who went 7-for-13 en route to 17 points in addition to six boards and six steals. She also posted five blocks, which is notable because Broadwater Academy is 7-1 when she posts at least three blocks, but 3-5 otherwise.

Another player making a difference was Miranda Smith, who posted seven points. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%).

Denbigh Baptist Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Julia Kinney and Tori Carr. Kinney earned 14 points along with eight rebounds and six steals, while Carr scored seven points in addition to six boards and five steals. Kinney continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Broadwater Academy pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points over those games. As for Denbigh Baptist Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Coming up, Broadwater Academy will challenge Chincoteague at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Denbigh Baptist Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
