Basketball Recap: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Green Hope Falcons
After flying high against Ascend Leadership last Friday, Lee County came back down to earth. The Lee County Yellow Jackets came up short against the Green Hope Falcons on Saturday, falling 56-33. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Falcons are ranked 130th).
Despite the loss, Lee County still got an impressive performance from Cherish Smith, who posted 11 points and four steals. Smith is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.
Abigail Brown was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards for Green Hope. That makes it three consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Green Hope's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Iliana Hennegan, who had nine points and three blocks.
Lee County's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Green Hope, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Lee County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 52-34 defeat against Apex Friendship on the 3rd. As for Green Hope, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-57 loss against Panther Creek on the 7th.
