Basketball Recap: Kylie Simpson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wheeler over Kouts

Wheeler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost to the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies on the road by a 56-37 margin. The Bearcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs & Fillies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Wheeler lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kylie Simpson, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynne Jolliff, who posted six points and four blocks.

Kouts got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elizabeth VanKley out in front who put up 13 points and seven rebounds. Ellie Nemeth was another key player, putting up eight points and 20 boards.

Wheeler's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Kouts, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Wheeler didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-47 defeat against Griffith on the 14th. As for Kouts, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-38 victory against Tri-Township on the 14th.
