Volleyball Recap: Fremont Takes a Loss

Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Saratoga Falcons. The Firebirds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Fremont wouldn't go down easily and took Saratoga into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking nine-point loss. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 15-6.

Despite the loss, Fremont still got an impressive performance from Neel Sharma, who had 18 assists and seven digs. Those seven digs gave Sharma a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rashad Lagman, who had 13 digs.

Fremont's record is now 4-11. As for Saratoga, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.

Fremont and Saratoga could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Fremont (ranked 512th) will meet Encina (ranked 228th) at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Saratoga will square off against Gunn at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday down 626 places (755 vs. 129).
