Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Midland Classical Academy

Midland Classical Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Midland Texas Leadership Charter Academy Eagles a 10-0 shutout.

Henry Friez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayson West, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Midland Classical Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't). Cam Gilbert was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Midland Classical Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midland Texas Leadership Charter Academy only posted an OBP of .176.

Midland Classical Academy now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Midland Texas Leadership Charter Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Looking ahead, Midland Classical Academy will be playing at home against Lubbock T at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
