Basketball Recap: Marianna Comes Up Short

Marianna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by the Holmes County Blue Devils 68-37. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-17 back in November of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Marianna saw an underclassman step up: freshman Dessiah Gee went 10 of 21 en route to 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gee has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ja'Shonna Mathis, who posted seven points and six rebounds.

Marianna's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Holmes County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

Marianna won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ponce De Leon at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ponce De Leon will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Marianna surely won't give up without a fight. As for Holmes County, they will welcome Graceville at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
