Softball Recap: Elk River Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Elk River had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Osseo Orioles by a score of 5-1. This was payback for the Elks, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Ella Fransen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Elk River let Kassie Balabon and Natalie Zimski run wild. Balabon scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Zimski went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Osseo's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elk River will host St. Michael-Albertville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Osseo, they will be playing at home against Rogers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
