Softball Recap: Coal City Comes Up Short

Coal City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 12-6 to the Ottawa Pirates. The Coalers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Madalyn Petersen and Khloe Picard did some serious damage despite the final result: Petersen went 2-for-4 with three runs, while Picard went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Harvey, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Coal City's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Ottawa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Coal City will head out to take on Pontiac at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Coalers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ottawa, they will host Sandwich at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
