Softball Recap: Sandia Beats Manzano for Their Third Straight Win

Sandia entered their tilt with Manzano on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Monarchs get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Matadors, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kim Brooks looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Steph Brooks was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aleena Duran, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Sandia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .529 or higher in three consecutive games.

Sandia pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Manzano, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Sandia beat the Monarchs by a score of 21-3 later that day.
