Football Preview: Aspen Skiers vs. Basalt Longhorns
Aspen is 0-10 against Basalt since October of 2014 but things could change on Friday. The Aspen Skiers will venture away from home to face off against the Basalt Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Aspen focused on turnovers this week as the team gave up five on Friday.
Last Friday, Aspen was able to grind out a solid victory over Coal Ridge, taking the game 21-14.
It was another big night for Dylan Mika, who rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
Aspen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

Basalt got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Henry Hendrix out in front who rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Those 76 rushing yards gave Hendrix a new career-high. Taylor Hays was in the mix as well, providing Basalt with two touchdowns.
Aspen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Basalt, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Aspen took a serious blow against Basalt in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, falling 62-20. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Aspen was down 41-13.
