Baseball Game Preview: Voyager Academy Vikings vs. Cape Hatteras Hurricanes

The Voyager Academy Vikings will take on the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Voyager Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Bertie 12-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won eight matches in a row.

Cameron Copley made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

In other batting news, Voyager Academy got a big performance out of Jacobi Purvis, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Carrick Ryan was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Wilson Prep typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Cape Hatteras proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hurricanes.

Voyager Academy pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Cape Hatteras, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
