Softball Recap: Bruce Comes Up Short

Bruce extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 9-10. They lost 13-0 to the South Pontotoc Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 18-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

Bruce saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi Bailey, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for South Pontotoc, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-11. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

On South Pontotoc's side, Anniston Wiggins and Ellie Mayo did most of the damage at the plate: Wiggins went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, while Mayo went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Mayo has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Emma Kate Walls was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bruce will square off against East Union at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Urchins' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Pontotoc, they will face off against New Albany at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
