Softball Recap: Jefferson Area Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

After losing to Perry the last time they met, Jefferson Area decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Falcons came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 7-3 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly four runs.

Olivia Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rylee Demattia was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Hill, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Jefferson Area is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Perry, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.

Jefferson Area and Perry should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Falcons will take on West Geauga at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (198 vs. 428). Meanwhile, Perry (ranked 123rd) will meet Ursuline (ranked 371st) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Pirates' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Fighting Irish have been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road.
