Baseball Game Preview: Zimmerman Thunder vs. St. Francis Fighting Saints

The Zimmerman Thunder will take on the St. Francis Fighting Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Zimmerman will be strutting in after a win while St. Francis will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Zimmerman turned things around against Milaca on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Wolves. The Thunder's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hank Olson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Olson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Zimmerman let Eli Martin and Noah Schmit run wild. Martin fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4, while Schmit went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Hartigan, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Zimmerman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither St. Francis nor Academy of Holy Angels made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Fighting Saints fell 4-1 to the Stars. The Fighting Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Zimmerman's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for St. Francis, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
