Baseball Game Preview: Jefferson Area Falcons vs. Madison Blue Streaks

The Jefferson Area Falcons will square off against the Madison Blue Streaks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Jefferson Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Jefferson Area was able to grind out a solid win over Lakeside, taking the game 6-2. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Michael Riffle was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Salinas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bedford an 11-0 shutout on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Blue Streaks with their most commanding win of the season.

The team relied heavily on Evan Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Luke Gibbons was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Jefferson Area's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Jefferson Area might still be hurting after the 16-5 loss they got from Madison when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
