Softball Recap: Anderson Comes Up Short

Anderson extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They lost 13-3 to the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos. If the Indians were looking for revenge after losing 8-2 to the Bronchos when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jaycen Swink was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Lafayette Jefferson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Lafayette Jefferson's side, Sayler Teal made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Teal has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lafayette Jefferson got a massive performance out of Rilee Clifton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Clifton has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Maya Thomas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Anderson will head out to challenge Kokomo at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they will square off against Marion at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bronchos are facing the Giants at the right time seeing as the Giants are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
