Football Game Preview: Hillsboro Eagles vs. Godley Wildcats

Two dominant backs in Braylen Benson and Adam Pempsell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hillsboro Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Godley Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillsboro has given up an average of 47.3 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hillsboro is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They were dealt a 56-14 defeat at the hands of Dunbar.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Godley). They blew past Venus 76-8 on Friday. Considering the Wildcats have won three games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hillsboro better keep an eye on Ryder Papasan. He was instrumental in Godley's win, throwing for 146 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 72 yards and a pair of scores. Papasan was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards. Kaleb Hand was another key player, rushing for 89 yards and one touchdown on only six carries.

Godley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. They are 4-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

The win made it two in a row for Godley and bumps their season record up to 4-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 14 points in those games. As for Hillsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Hillsboro might still be hurting after the 23-0 defeat they got from Godley in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
