Washburn had won five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they bumped their record up to 4-1 to make it six. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wright Red Devils 4-2. That's more bragging rights for the Castle Guards, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Silas Roode, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Wright, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 17, 2024.

On Wright's side, Brendan McCullough spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Wright saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Sommer, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washburn will venture away from home to face off against Bayfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Castle Guards are facing the Trollers at the right time seeing as the Trollers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Wright, they will head out on the road to take on Ewen-Trout Creek at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
