Baseball Recap: Sylva Bay Academy Victorious

Sylva Bay Academy's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hattiesburg HomeSchool Forerunners a 13-0 shutout. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

Lane Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Levi West and Micah Odom did most of the damage at the plate: West scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Odom scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Sylva Bay Academy is undefeated when Odom posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Timothy Moss, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sylva Bay Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hattiesburg HomeSchool only posted an OBP of .176.

Sylva Bay Academy's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Hattiesburg HomeSchool, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.

Looking ahead, Sylva Bay Academy will welcome Newton County Academy at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th. As for Hattiesburg HomeSchool, they will venture away from home to square off against Laurel HomeSchool at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
