Basketball Recap: Plainfield South Falls Despite Big Games from Zahira Edwards and Tierra Abner

Plainfield South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 69-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yorkville Foxes. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Foxes are ranked 108th).

Plainfield South's loss came despite strong showings from Tierra Abner and Zahira Edwards. Abner went 7 for 17 on her way to 19 points and five steals, while Edwards went 7 of 16 on her way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Abner a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Niya Willis, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Plainfield South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Plainfield South's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Yorkville, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-6.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Plainfield South Cougars take on the Oswego Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Yorkville, they will venture away from home to take on Plainfield East at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yorkville is facing Plainfield East at the right time seeing as Plainfield East is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
