Baseball Recap: Leland Takes a Loss

Leland extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-19 in the process. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pioneer Mustangs. If the Chargers were looking for revenge after losing 6-4 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Pioneer, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

For Pioneer's part, Andre Valdespino was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Valdespino's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ben Kennaday, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Leland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
