Recap: Gaither Cowboys vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Gaither Cowboys walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat St. Petersburg 42-14 on the road. Gaither might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four contests by 28 points or more this season.
Gaither's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elija Mason, who rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. Mason is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Nixon, who threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Gaither, bringing their record for this year to 6-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.0 points per game. As for St. Petersburg, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3.
Gaither will head out on the road to face off against Largo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Largo will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. St. Petersburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
