Softball Game Preview: Burbank Bulldogs vs. Seguin Matadors

The Burbank Bulldogs will take on the Seguin Matadors at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Burbank sitting on five straight wins and Seguin on six.

Burbank proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 17) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Highlands 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since February 14th.

Evelyn Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Burbank let Jalyn Ortiz and Kyrsten Garza run wild. Ortiz scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Garza went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gianina Valdez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Burbank hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Seguin got the win against Edison on Wednesday by a conclusive 17-1. Considering the Matadors have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Burbank pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Seguin, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1.
