Baseball Recap: Marcos de Niza Victorious

Marcos de Niza won the last time they faced Goldwater and things went their way on Monday too. The Padres came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Padres.

Marcos de Niza got a great performance from Gilbert Fuerte as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Fuerte also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Padres are 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Julien Arroyo, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jackson Matherson, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Marcos de Niza's victory bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Goldwater, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Marcos de Niza will host Saguaro at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Goldwater, they will head out to take on Paradise Honors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
