Baseball Recap: Manitowoc Lutheran Victorious

The third road game was the charm for Manitowoc Lutheran, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Resorters: they've now won seven in a row.

Derek Laabs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

Laabs wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Will Franzen, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Franzen a new career-high. Another was Josiah Martin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Manitowoc Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah only posted a batting average of .200.

Manitowoc Lutheran's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Manitowoc Lutheran will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Sheboygan Area Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers are facing the Crusaders at the right time seeing as the Crusaders are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Anthony at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
