Softball Recap: Windthorst Has No Trouble Against Nocona

Nocona typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Windthorst proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 9-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.

Jalyn Benson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Windthorst got a massive performance out of Karissa Fillingim, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Fillingim has been hot, having posted three or more hits the last six times she's played. Charlee Wolf was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Windthorst was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in five consecutive games.

Windthorst is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Nocona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-10.

Windthorst will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
