Preview: Benjamin Davis Falcons vs. Nimitz Cougars
The Benjamin Davis Falcons will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Nimitz Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Benjamin Davis has not done well against MacArthur recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Benjamin Davis came out on top against MacArthur by a score of 45-37. Given Benjamin Davis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 421st, while MacArthur is ranked 850th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Nimitz stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 77-37 win over Eisenhower at home. Winning may never get old, but Nimitz sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Nimitz's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyndall Roberts, who scored 19 points along with seven steals and six assists. Roberts is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Aniah Richard was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five assists and three steals.
Benjamin Davis is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. As for Nimitz, they pushed their record up to 19-6 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Benjamin Davis, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-48 loss to Nimitz in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Nimitz's Kymira Houston, who scored 24 points along with four steals.
