Softball Recap: Wickliffe Victorious

Wickliffe won the last time they faced Crestwood and things went their way on Monday too. The Blue Devils walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Red Devils.

Leigha Blazetic was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Blazetic wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Bucar, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Maddie Kita also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Wickliffe's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Crestwood, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, Wickliffe will square off against Gilmour Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Crestwood, they will take on Cardinal at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
