Preview: The Woodlands Highlanders vs. College Park Cavaliers
The Woodlands is 8-1 against College Park since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The The Woodlands Highlanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the College Park Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. The Woodlands knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully College Park likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, The Woodlands blew past Cleveland, posting a 70-7 victory on the road. Given The Woodlands' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Cleveland is ranked 1031st), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
The Woodlands can attribute much of their success to Mabrey Mettauer, who threw for 155 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes. Mettauer is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Aden Self was another key contributor, gaining 69 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, College Park unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak two Thursdays ago. They were dealt a 56-17 loss at the hands of Willis. College Park was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
College Park's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sebastian Montoya, who rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns, and Jayden Ogoli who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns.
The Woodlands' victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-2. They've been dominating across those matchups too: they took their wins by an average of 48.33 points. As for College Park, their defeat two Thursdays ago dropped their record down to 3-3.
Everything came up roses for The Woodlands against College Park when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 34-3 win. Does The Woodlands have another victory up their sleeve, or will College Park turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
