Basketball Game Preview: Abington Friends vs. Friends Select

Abington Friends and Friends Select are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2016, but not for long. Abington Friends will challenge Friends Select at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

If Friends Select heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Abington Friends took over last week. Abington Friends snuck past String Theory with a 61-55 victory on Saturday. Given Abington Friends' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while String Theory is ranked 672nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Friends Select hadn't done well against Friends' Central recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Friends Select came out on top against Friends' Central by a score of 55-47.

Abington Friends pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Friends Select, their record now sits at 12-8.

Abington Friends came up short against Friends Select in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 61-48. Can Abington Friends avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
